Jan Michael C. Sumalde is a licensed chemist with courses in business studies. Prior to joining the Firm, he worked as a research development chemist for the hair care cosmetics and fragrance market, as an information analyst of chemical information found in journal articles, and as a researcher for Chinese and English patents.
His work experience includes prior art search, and drafting, filing, and prosecution of patent, industrial design and utility model applications. He is also adept in monitoring patent annuities and industrial design renewals.
At Federis, Mr. Sumalde’s main responsibilities include prosecuting patent, utility model and design applications, preparing letter-advices to clients concerning Office Actions issued by the Bureau of Patents as well as responses thereto, and monitors deadlines.
Mr. Sumalde earned his degree in Bachelor of Science in Chemistry minor in Business Studies in De La Salle University.
